iPad 2 Price in Malaysia… RM6000++???

Yup. That’s the price that you need to pay for owning the latest product from Apple in Malaysia.

One shop in Lowyat selling iPad 2 WiFi + 3G model for RM6,000 and iPad 2 WiFi only model for RM4,500. Ready stock.

64GB WiFi + 3G iPad 2 model is selling at RM6, 000++ in Malaysia. That’s the current price that I have got from the Internet.

Many Asian gangs are paying US$100 for people to line up for them to buy iPad 2 and then ships to other countries to sell.

One Hong Kong retailer managed to get iPad 2 from US and are selling it at roughly double the price of iPad 2.

These are the prices of all iPad 2 models that one retailer sells:

iPad 2 with Wi-Fi (Black)

16GB: HKD$7,980 (about US$1025, RM3,127++)

32GB: HKD$8,980 (about US$1153, RM3,517++)

64GB: HKD$9,980 (about US$1280, RM3,905++)

iPad 2 with Wi-Fi + 3G (Black)

16GB: HKD$9,680 (about US$1243, RM3,792++)

32GB: HKD$10,680 (about US$1371, RM4,182++)

64GB: HKD$11,880 (about US$1525, RM4,652++)

If you want a white version, you need to add HKD$1500-2000 (about US$192-US$25, RM585++ – RM781++) for every model. We are more shocked when we see the prices for the smart cover and HDMI adapter. Prices below:

iPad Smart Cover – Leather – Any colors: HKD$1,280 (about US$164, RM500++)

HDMI Adapter: HKD$580 (about $74, RM225++)

That’s really insane!!! White iPad 2 16GB WiFi costs around RM3,600++ and white iPad 2  16GB WiFi + 3G costs RM4,200++.  Everything is marked up at least 200% and there are still people buying it. Just for the sake of being the first few who own iPad 2 and also for the bragging right.

Not only Hong Kong are selling iPad 2 with such high prices, UK are selling it that high too. iPad 2 64GB WiFi + 3G is selling at £2,000++ in eBay. That’s around RM6,000++. Crazy, crazy and crazy. The resellers really know how to earn money from Apple fanboys. No wonder, Apple fans are called fanboys. They are willing to pay the premium to be the 1st. 🙂

Luckily our own Malaysian grey market for iPad 2 is not selling that high price. Here’s a screenshot of the prices of iPad 2 in Malaysia.

The price for Malaysia’s white iPad 2 16GB WiFi costs around RM2,000++ (RM2,200++,  my guess) and white iPad 2 16GB WiFi + 3G costs around RM2,000++ (RM2,600++, my guess). That’s RM1,000 – RM2,000 lesser than what the Hongkies are selling.

So, are you willing to splurge RM500 – RM1,000++ to be the first few to own iPad 2 in Malaysia and has the bragging right?

I am so tempted to get one from the grey market but I have my doubts such as the warranty and after sales service of the iPad 2. Well, anyone of you who have purchased it,in the grey market, please share in the comment box. Thank you.
